Visch Family Rookie Lifesaver of the Year: Will Hartwig

Since recently completing his Bronze Medallion in late Nov 2019, Will Hartwig has gone on to clock up over 40 voluntary hours of patrolling in his first Season which is quite impressive, given Season 19/20 was cut short and he only started Patrolling in December!Along the way Will has enthusiastically assisted as a volunteer and then swum the Bondi 2 Bronte, Patrolled at Garie beach as part of their outreach program, conducted regular WS for the next group of Bronzies and has regularly attended Club board and surf skills training. On top of this, every week, rain hail or shine, he has provided water safety, spiritual advice and calm motivation for the elderly tea baggers at Wednesday’s with Gary.

Will also managed to slip in as an essential team player on the Bronte Surf Club after-hours Mass rescue, working with his Brother in Arms Will Johnstone, sourcing critical care equipment and following up with surveillance sweeps. His duty of care and “reporting back for duty - what do you need me to do next” attitude is infectious and commendable whilst his calm demeanour belies his age. It is a testament to his skill, dedication and the positive impact he has on the wider community as a whole that numerous other members have put forward his name for Rookie of the Year.
