Advanced Resuscitation Techniques (ART)
This course teaches you the principles of airway management and oxygen-aided resuscitation. There is a prerequisite of having a First Aid Certificate (code: HLTAID011). Learn more >
Silver Medallion – Aquatic Rescue (SMAR)
This practical course provides you with the skills and knowledge to participate in search and rescue operations. This course is run by SLS Sydney and is offered to all 15 Sydney clubs, so places are limited. Minimum age: 16. Learn more >
Silver Medallion – Beach Management (SMBM)
This course provides the skills, knowledge and experience required to manage a lifesaving or lifeguarding team in emergency and non-emergency situations. This popular course is run by SLS Sydney and is offered to all 15 Sydney clubs, so places are very limited. We'll prioritise members who have started training as a VC and those who have patrolled regularly for at least two seasons. Minimum age: 17. Learn more >
Gold Medallion
The Gold Medallion combines existing skills and knowledge in a practical assessment, including fitness and rescue scenarios. You'll be assessed on your ability to manage emergencies autonomously. The prerequisites are Bronze Medallion, First Aid, ART, Silver Medallion Beach Management and an 800m proficiency swim in under 14 minutes. Learn more >
IRB Crew
The Inflatable Rescue Boat (IRB) crew course provides you with the skills and knowledge to effectively crew an IRB in surf rescue operations. Places are limited, and preference will be given to members who can help fulfil our IRB Water Safety roster at the NSW state championships held in early March each year. Learn more >
IRB Driver
The Inflatable Rescue Boat (IRB) driver course provides you with the skills and knowledge to effectively drive an IRB in surf rescue operations. To apply for this course, you must be a proficient IRB crewperson and have crewed regularly for at least two seasons. Learn more >
First Aid Certificate
This course provides participants with the skills and knowledge to manage emergency first-aid situations until professional medical support is available. It's a nationally recognised qualification that's valid for three years. We occasionally run this course at Bronte, but if you need to do it sooner, SLS NSW regularly runs it at various locations.
