Parent involvement

Nippers is volunteer-run!  Our parents often have just as much fun as our kids.  The more help we can get, the better our program will be.

If you wish to actively help with Nipper activities on the beach, it's an SLS requirement that you hold either the Age Manager Award (short!) or a current Bronze Medallion.  You’ll also need to provide us with your Working With Children Check (WWCC) which you can apply for here

You’re always welcome to assist with:

  • Beach set up
  • Beach pack up
  • BBQ

Age Manager and Age Assistant:

  • Our Age Managers (white shirts) lead their group each week on the beach.   For those in U6 and U7, we are keen to hear from anyone interested in becoming qualified. You will be guided and mentored along the way.
  • Age Assistants (yellow caps) are just that!  We need plenty of parents to help with activities on the beach and to provide Age Managers with any admin assistance.

To become an Age Manager or Age Assistant, you need to do two short online courses: the 'SLSA Child Safe Awareness' first and then the ‘Age Manager’ course, and provide the Club with your WWCC number (apply here). You will then receive a yellow 'Bronte' cap.

To do the online courses:

  • Log in to your SLS Members Area Account
  • Click on e-Learning
  • Click on Training Library
  • Click on SLS – Age Managers
  • Click on the course: SLS - Child Safe Awareness
  • Once the above course is complete, click on the course: SLS – Age Managers

Annual Age Manager proficiency: to maintain your Age Manager qualification, you need to:

  • Watch the 2024 Age Manager Award Skills Maintenance video via your Members Area Account (follow the first 4 points above to access); and
  • Maintain a current WWCC

Water Safety

All water safety must hold a current Bronze Medallion.  Check here for details of the next course and here for skills maintenance sessions!

Officials

We need plenty of officials to help run our Club Champs and assist at Carnivals!

If your child competes at Carnivals, you will be expected to volunteer as an Official or as Water Safety.

The officials course is a (short) online course, followed by practical experience at a Carnival:

  • Register with the Australian Sports Commission as a Lifesaving Official and complete the required modules (Sportaus Learning Portal). Email certificates of completion to nippers@brontesurfclub.com.au.
  • Log into your SLS Members Area Account
  • Click on e-Learning
  • Click on Training Library
  • Click on SLS – Officiating
  • Click on SLS – Technical Official.  There is an upfront fee of $60 that Bronte will reimburse once you qualify.
  • Email nippers@brontesurfclub.com.au:
    • With your Working with Children Check number (WWCC);
    • With all certificates of completion; and
    • To arrange practical experience and assessment at an upcoming Carnival.
