Category information below, or for more details, please check this document.
Probationary (aged 15+)
Applies between the application for membership and the Club's assignment of a formal membership category, including the period before obtaining an award such as the Bronze Medallion.
Cadet (13–15 years)
For members aged 13–15 who have obtained the Surf Rescue Certificate and who fulfil club obligations, including maintaining their award by attending an annual Skills Maintenance session.
Active (15–17 years)
For members aged 15–17 who have obtained or are training towards the Bronze Medallion in the current season. Members who already hold an SRC or Bronze Medallion must fulfil club obligations, including maintaining their award through attendance at an annual Skills Maintenance session.
Active (18 years & over)
For Bronze Medallion holders aged 18 and over who fulfil full patrol and club obligations, and maintain their award by attending an annual Skills Maintenance session.
Leave / Restricted
An Active member (SRC or Bronze Medallion holder) who, due to extenuating circumstances, has requested in writing to the Club Captain and been approved by the Board of Management for a restricted duties membership for that season only. Active and Reserve Active members who do not attend an annual Skills Maintenance session will also be transferred to this category.
Reserve Active
Members who have satisfactorily completed 8 years of patrols and service, recording a minimum of 30 hours per season with Bronte SLSC or any other SLSA-affiliated club. Members may elect not to be rostered to a regular patrol team but are required to perform a minimum of 12 patrol hours per season. This is required for both SLSA eligibility to compete and for transition to Long Service after 10 years. Members who remain on a patrol team must meet full patrol requirements.
Long Service
Members who have satisfactorily completed 8 years of Active service and at least 2 years of Reserve Active service. Exempt from patrol obligations. Members who remain on a patrol team must meet full patrol requirements.
General Member (Nipper Parent)
Required for all Nipper families. Every Nipper must have at least one parent or guardian registered as a club member. This category allows parents to assist on the beach during Nipper activities and includes SLSA insurance cover. This is separate from the Active or Water Safety membership, which is for Bronze Medallion holders who patrol or provide water safety. Membership must be renewed annually.
Associate
Members must be at least 35 years of age. Associates have full access to club facilities. All club members are subject to the club's constitution and regulations.
Life Membership
Life Membership is only granted following nomination and approval by the Board of Management, for distinguished service to Bronte Surf Life Saving Club.
Honorary
Elected for a period of one year at the discretion of the Board of Management, primarily in recognition of exceptional service to Bronte. Honorary members do not hold voting rights.
