Bronze Medallion holders providing Water Safety for Nippers
members of Bronte SLSC are required to undertake regular beach patrols from September to April. Or,
as a nipper parent you can perform regular weekly water safety as well
as attend a minimum of three voluntary beach patrols per season.
It is the responsibility of all Nipper Parents not rostered to regular patrol to complete at least 24hours of water safety, as well as attend a minimum of 3 voluntary patrols each season.
Bronze Medallion Course
The aim of this course is to provide members with knowledge of basic patrolling, first aid and surf awareness in order to be able to participate in life saving operations. This is the main award for Surf Life Saving in Australia.
The course runs for approximately 8 weeks. During this time candidates will develop skills in;
- Safety and wellbeing
- Surf awareness and skills
- Defibrillation and basic oxygen
- First aid
- Radio Communications
- Rescue techniques
- Carries and Supports
Candidates must be a minimum of 15 years of age on the date of the final assessment.
Candidates must have completed a 400m swim in 9 minutes or less. This needs to be completed prior to any training in the surf.
For this award to remain current, candidates must perform a proficiency check prior to 31st December.
