Andrew Bowden Australian Gold Medal

 

Last Saturday Andrew Bowden competed at the Surf Life Saving National Pool Rescue Championships at the AIS Pool in Canberra. For more details go to the Competition Results Page.

Andrew won the 50 m Manikin Tow in a near record time. Our National President Graham Ford presented Andrew with his Gold Medal. Andrew is traveling soon to South Africa to compete and is focused on being selected for the Australian Team to the World Championships next year in Adelaide Rescue 2012 and will also being competing for Bronte in the World Interclub Championships.

Both Boat Crews from Bronte made it through to the final knockout rounds, with the A crew on a qualifying streak but managing to break their boat rather than finish the race.
After High expectations for our mens open taplin team with great results gaining 3rd place at State and 2nd place at Worlds, they ran into some bad luck and narrowly missed out on the final by 1 place.

Congratulations to all competitors on a big season! Kurrawa got the better of us this year, putting up a double bank and difficult conditions in the messy surf. Although luck didn't go our way up at Aussies there are high hopes for the coming season. After some great results this season at the boat series, branch, state and worlds, we are looking forward to seeing what the team can produce in 2012.

A big thanks to Jeff Lydan for towing the competition trailer up to Aussies and being our IRB driver representative. Thanks to our officals Pam Woodger, Lyn Burke, Col McDermid and Max Gonzalez for being on the beach everyday.

As always thank you to Barry Brignell for organising the competitors entries into carnivals throughout the season.
