Beach, Board and Ski

Members can represent Bronte SLSC in any or all of the surf sport disciplines of Board, Ski, and the beach events of  flags and sand sprints.   The club has dedicated coaches and runs a regular training program  to support member development. 

Board

Brodie Schott is Bronte's Board and iron coach for cadets through to Masters. Brodie has been involved in Surf Life Saving since the age of 5. He has been competing in swim, board, ironman and later on in the ski.

Brodie has won gold in the u17 taplin at aussies, silver in u19 board relay and gold in state u19 board relay and taplin, 4th u19 Coolangatta gold. Brodie has also made multiple board finals at State and Aussies. Brodie has also been competing in sprint kayaking and was 1st in the 1000 and 500m kayak at state last season in U23's.
Brodie is currently studying sports business at university and is an accredited personal trainer.
Brodie is also a key member of the Bronte SLSC senior team. Brodie shows maturity beyond his age and is developing a strong board and iron team particularly with Bronte's cadets and juniors.

Ski

Bronte SLSC has been developing a strong Senior ski team over the past 5 years under the tutelage of Head Ski Coach Jim Walker.  Bronte SLSC is committed to developing a sustainable ski program and developing junior paddlers through to Masters. The most recent results include Matt Eltham winning a bronze medal in the open ski at 2016 Worlds. 

For 30 years Jim has competed in Surf Life Saving and in that time he has won multiple Australian and State Titles. For more then 25 of those 30 years he has dedicated his time to paddling surf skis, in 1996 represented Australia  in the sport of kayaking at the Atalanta Olympics where he was a finalist.

Over many years of paddling Jim developed his skills in paddling and coaching by surrounding himself with the best paddlers and coaches in the life saving movement, this helped him gain valuable experiences and let learn how to pave his own way in his own coaching methods.

Jims coaching credentials include: 

  • Australian Kayak team U23 Head coach 2008,2009,2010.
  • New South Wales Institute of Sport head kayak coach 2006-2009
  • Next Wave Australian Surf Life Savings pathways from surf to kayak coach 2012-2015
Jim also has just been appointed head coach for the next two years to be NSW Surf Life Savings head coach. He also owns and runs the very popular website www.mykayakcoach.com one of the worlds leading paddling websites.
