5th Week @ Bronte Nippers


What a beautiful morning at Bronte!  Finally, a perfect opportunity to get into the ocean and to run our Club Champs water events - congratulations to all our nippers, in particular the U9s who did their first Sunday morning ocean paddles for the season!  A fantastic effort! 

We look forward to seeing our U8-U14's for nippers at North Bondi this Sunday as everyone competes in the Waverley Shield.

BBQ

With most nippers at the Waverley Shield this Sunday, BBQ duties fall to the U6 Boys from 8am-9.45am.   

WAVERLEY SHIELD, this Sunday 17 November at North Bondi

This Sunday, nippers is at North Bondi for all U8-U14s!  The Waverley Shield carnival is a fun, friendly carnival between the Waverley Council surf clubs and a great introduction to competition for our new nippers. We expect all U8-U14 nippers to attend and Waverley Shield will replace normal nippers for these age groups.   

Pink rashies and Bronte nipper caps are compulsory (blue on the right, yellow on the left). Please bring goggles, plenty of water, snacks, sunscreen, a black marker as well as plenty of patience and good humour.  As with all carnivals, there will be some waiting about, and nippers may need to chose between sand and water events as they will be run concurrently.   

U8, U9 and U10 commence at 8am with marshalling for first events at 7.45am.  U11, U12, U13 and U14 commence at 10am.  The all age beach relay is at 10am and the all age board relay is at 10am (each marshalling at 9.45am). The 1km soft sand run commences at 9.45am for ages U11-13, as does the 2km soft sand run for U14.   

Water warm up U9 & U10: 7.15am, Water Area 1 with Mackenzie.  

Water warm up U11-U14: 9.45am, Water Area 2 with Jason.  

Bring goggles.  Water safety required.  

WAVERLEY SHIELD - PLEASE READ - ASSIGNED TASKS FOR EACH AGE GROUP

The Waverley Shield is a collective effort and we need plenty of volunteers to assist.  Please see below the tasks that have been assigned to each age group and let your age manager know how you can assist.  The tasks are modest.  Please don't assume others will do them.   

Over and above these, we need to fulfil a significant water safety quota.  Please bring your gear and be prepared to pitch in.  At 7.30am, officials and water safety briefings will take place in your designated areas on the beach and age manager briefings will take place in the club.   

U8

6.00am-7.30am: assist Col McDermid to set up U8 area.  

During carnival:  6 dedicated 'parent helpers' are required from each of the girls and boys groups to assist Col.

11.00am-11.30am: pack up U8 area, including bringing 2 tents back to Bronte. 

U9

6am: 6 parents required to set up the sprint track.  Marc Braun will bring the bunting and guide the process.  
10.30am: bring all Bronte foam boards from Water Area 1 back to Bronte trailer. 

U10

2 volunteers are needed to pick up 2 tents from Bronte SLSC in the week prior to the carnival and transport them to North Bondi by 6.30am on the day. The tents are large. 1 tent per vehicle.  They then need to be set up in the U8 area – 1 at the marshalling end, and 1 at the recording end.
10.30am: bring all Bronte foam boards from Water Area 2 back to trailer. 

U11

1:00pm:  bring all Bronte nipper boards from water area 1 back to trailer.

U12

1:00pm: 8 parents to pack up the sprint track at the end of the carnival.   

U13

Pack up the 2 tents set up by the U10's in the U8 area.  2 volunteers are needed to bring the 2 tents back to Bronte SLSC. The tents are large. 1 tent per vehicle.  

1:00pm: bring all Bronte boards from water area 2 back to trailer. 

U14

Saturday afternoon, 2pm: pack trailer at Bronte and unpack on Sunday afternoon following the Carnival.  

All U14's who are able to transport a long board, please collect one at 2pm on Saturday.  

1:00pm: bring all Bronte long boards from Water Area 1 back to trailer. 

Age Managers

Saturday afternoon, 2pm: pack trailer at Bronte on Saturday afternoon at 2pm

CLUB ACTIVITIES 

We'd love to see you at any of the informal Club gatherings and activities throughout the week:

  • Sunday Sips, 4pm each Sunday upstairs 
  • Sunday afternoon running group at 4.15pm (run to Bondi and back)
  • group board paddle for qualified bronze medallion holders on Sunday afternoons at 4pm
  • Wednesday morning group swim at 6am outside North Bondi SLSC
  • pilates with Harries on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 6am ($10 cash)

NIPPER TRAINING 

Nipper training continues this week.  We hope our new trainees are learning invaluable skills and building confidence.   

Here are the details:

  • sand training: with Jordan Williams at Bronte - Wednesdays 3.45pm-5.15pm 
  • beginner boards for U9 and up: with Jo Mermaid at Bondi - Tuesdays 4.25pm-5.30pm 
  • development squad boards: with Mackenzie Gavin - Tuesdays 4.25pm-5.30pm and Saturdays (time TBA via TeamApp) at Bondi; 
  • competition squad boards: with Jason Gavin - Tuesdays 4.30pm-5.30pm at Bronte; Saturdays (time TBA via TeamApp) at Bronte.  Participation in this squad is at the discretion of Jason Gavin.  It is for nippers who wish to compete.  Each session is 4km-5km. 

Communication re sand training is via Bronte Nippers TeamApp.  Communication regarding board training is via a separate TeamApp page: 'Bronte Board Trng'.  Please request access to the groups relevant to you.

BONDI TO BRONTE, Sunday 1 December

The Bondi to Bronte Ocean Swim will take place on Sunday 1 December.  We'd like to see as many U9-U14 nippers as possible participate in the Junior Ocean Swim!  Details are here: Junior Ocean Swim
