Dear Members/Friends

It seems almost unthinkable that we are now into March.Some Club updates;

  • On behalf of the Board of Management and I know I speak for the membership and the community, I would like to thank the incredibly great continued work of our patrollers and IRB teams.I am pleased to report that rescues are down in numbers compared to last year and that is probably due to the incredible amount of preventative actions our patrollers have undertaken.Nearly 5,000 in number and the highest increase of any Club in the Sydney Branch.
  • I would also like to thank our Sunday Nipper Water Safety crew for their continued help to the Nipper program and to the amazing job Dave Finnimore (with great assistance from James, Troy and others) is doing with the board paddling groups.A sensational initiative.
  • Good luck to all of our competitors going to State at Swansea this week.Craig Betts and his committee have done a fantastic job and we have about 100 Nippers heading up the coast.Good luck to one and all and hopefully everyone can have a good time amongst the organised chaos!
  • Not everyone may be aware, but a proposal was submitted to the traffic committee of Waverley Council to provide for a 130m pedestrian walkway with the removal of 20 car spots for a 12 month period in the cutting.Whilst the Bronte Surf Club supports the idea of catering for pedestrian security, we did not believe the committee have given careful consideration of the implications of traffic congestion, making it more difficult for our lifesavers, nippers, parents and member to park so we have lodged our opposition to the motion in its current form.
I am pleased to say that the motion has been postponed so all alternatives can be considered.
  • Just a reminder for those of you who take photos throughout the summer, we would love you to share them with us potentially for our Annual Report.Feel free to send any photos you may have to
Look forward to seeing you down at the beach and/or the Club.

2018 Twilight Club Championships Friday 23rd March 5-7pm followed by club BBQ until late

Block your calendar, take a half day off work, book a babysitter/dog walker, basically do whatever you need, to ensure you don t miss out on the best night of the surf club calendar.

We’re putting fun and participation ahead of placings for an inclusive teams only based club champs.

So rally your fellow patrollers, cadets, water safety mates, basically anyone with their SRC or Bronze, and get set for a night of friendly competition followed by drinks and a BBQ upstairs.

Invite your friends and family down to cheer you on!

Of course, there will always be a few that keep score and placings that will change based on how many times the story is retold at the end of the night. We have no control over that!

Events will include:

  • Swim Team 3 x swimmers
  • Board Relay 3 x board paddlers
  • Board Rescue 1 x swim 1 x board
  • Cameron Team - 1 x swim, 1 x run, 1 x board, 1 x run.
  • Sand Relay - 4 x runners
  • Best IRB team Doughnut (maybe)

Don’t have a team? Don’t worry, we will help co-ordinate that on the day, with bonus points for teams that consist of mixed gender, under 20’s & over 50’s. In fact, we might insist on it!

What do you need to do for now? Put it in the dairy. More details will follow.

Bronte Nipper's are really excited to announce an upcoming event for 30 Bronte girls to attend a Hydrothon Clinic on March 18th prior to our presentation day event.

This event is in partnership with our sponsor Macquarie Bank and we hope to have some children of Macquarie staff join in the morning. The clinic is specifically aimed at girls aged 10-14 with guest speaker Taylar Puskaric talking about her training and diet as a Nutri Grain Iron Woman. The event is limited to 30 Bronte nippers and cost $5. They do need to pre-register to sign off on a waiver.

There is a board to be given away and all participants will receive some goods.

See flyer for more details or ask your age manager.

This is not just for top athletes, we hope to inform girls about diet and training and encourage further participation so we hope we get a good take up.

The Club would like to send a cheerio out to a couple of long time members who now reside over the Queensland border and are unfortunately hospital bound for a short while.

Bryan Kelaher is a 96 year old member, who after a recent fall, is convalescing at John Flynn Private Hospital in Tugun. Bryan acquired his bronze medallion with Bronte in 1945 and was a long time member and Club administrator during his many years at our Club.

Bob Dorman, a mere 82 years old, is soon to have surgery in the Gold Coast University Hospital. Bob joined the Club in the 1950’s and continued his fabulous service to the Club during the following decades.

On behalf of all Bronte members, we wish both Bryan and Bob a speedy recovery.
