President's Update

Dear Members/Friends
I hope everyone has enjoyed the change of weather after the summer we have had.
Some club updates:

-    On behalf of the Board of Management and I’m sure I speak for the whole community when we thank the continued great work of all of our patrollers and IRB teams.  As of the end of January, we had performed over 170 rescues.  This is an increase of 20% over the same period last year.  By way of comparison a Club like North Bondi has performed 62 rescues over the same period.

-    Whilst thanking our various groups, I would also like to thank our Sunday Nipper Water Safety crew for the big effort this summer.  Without them we just would not be able to undertake our Nipper program.

-    Good luck to all of our competitors going to The State Titles at Swansea.  This weekend sees our Nippers compete and the weekend after our Opens.  We have nearly 100 nippers going up and Bettsy and the team have done a tremendous job of getting them ready.  Good luck to one and all and most importantly I hope you enjoy the experience.

-    An update on the Bronte Plan of Management.  The new draft Plan of Management is going to be presented to Council on 21 March.  A couple of weeks after that it will be lodged for public input for a period of about six weeks.  All things being equal, Council believes it will have a final Plan of Management sometime in June or July.  Upon a review of the Plan of Management, the Club will lodge a new DA.

-    Congratulations to Jarrod Port from our Club who won the Rottnest Ocean swim.  It is the longest ocean swim being some 20km from the coast of WA to the island.  Jarrod did it in an amazing 4 hours 12 minutes which was close to the record.

-    A quick reminder that the Club has a Summer Party on Saturday, 18 March starting at about 6.30pm.  There is going to be some great music and hot nibbles available.  Tickets are only $10, payable on the evening.  As with all Bronte functions, it should be a wonderful night.  Feel free to bring friends down as well.

-    For those of you that take photos throughout the summer, we would love you to share them with us potentially for our Annual Report.  Feel free to send any photos you may have to Peter Butcher in our office.

Look forward to seeing you down at the beach or Club.

Basil Scaffidi

Congratulations to our Competition Lifesaving Team

An amazing performance from Bronte last weekend at the start of the NSW State Titles at Blacksmiths Beach. The Bronte Badgers (Opens) and Baby Badgers (U17's) Champion Lifesaver and Patrol Competition teams won a swag of medals and gained valuable experience in some all-encompassing lifesaving events.
On day one, Will McCance and Leigh Ryan made history giving Bronte its first ever Open Champion Lifesaver Gold and Silver medal. Steve Iannazzo and Max Gonzalez also took out a silver and a bronze in the Masters.
Day two saw the Open patrol Competition team (Bronte Badgers) take home a bronze and the newly formed U17 team (Baby Badgers) who competing for the first time, came home with a silver medal in the Patrol Competition.
Congratulations to Helena Moloney, Karli Mussara, Georgina Ryan and James Rice.
