Bronte Surf Club Member News

Dear All,

Welcome to the 2017-2018 Season.  The winter weather has been so amazing I’m not sure we left summer!

Some of the matters to highlight as we prepare for our first weekend of Patrols;

  • Our first Bronze course of the season starting in October is already fully booked.  For those interested in the next Bronze Course being held in February 2018, please visit the lifesaving page on the website.

  • We had a successful gear inspection, thank you to the team for arranging the day and to all the volunteers that helped out.

  • We have commenced our Nipper proficiencies and our Nipper registrations are motoring along

  • A reminder to all Active members who do not live in the Waverley District, that you are eligible for a car parking pass at near resident prices of $180.00.  Please visit the website for details.

  • As to our Masterplan, we have continued to meet with Council and have lodged a pre-DA.  We hope to meet with the new Mayor once the newly elected Council members have settled in.

  • We have instigated a new 2017 Strategic Plan for the Club (which is on the website).  Amongst our priorities is a focus on upskilling our lifesavers, increasing leadership roles for women and “sharing the load” (members helping out on little jobs around the Club).  You will hear more on these initiatives in coming months.

  • On Tuesday we launched this year’s Macquarie Bondi to Bronte Ocean Swim.  For those interested go to website

  • Don’t forget about our Sunday afternoon Sips.  As we enter into Summer, it is a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon with family and friends.

On behalf of the Board of Management, we would like to thank you in advance for all of your efforts in being a part of our Club.

I look forward to seeing you on the beach.

At the end of last season it became clear to us that while 1/3 of our members are female, women were underrepresented in leadership roles within the club. We resolved to address that. With this in mind, we've appointed Gaby Naher to the Board of Management in an ex officio role. Gaby, will lead a small group of committed members, focused on delivering positive changes that will provide pathways and support for women to take Club leadership roles including as Patrol Captains/Vice Captains. In parallel there will be practical skills training to encourage female members to further develop both land and ocean skills.

Gaby who works in publishing, will also assist the club with both internal and external communications. Gaby did her Bronze as a nipper mum back in 2009, has had a number of roles in the Club since and is the newly appointed Captain of Patrol 6. Not only do our girls (and boys) benefit from having women role models on patrol and in the waves, but playing an active role in the Bronte SLSC community is both fun and rewarding. Contact Gaby with your suggestions and queries.

Congratulations Gaby

Forecast for this Sunday is 28 degrees and with west winds it will be a magic day down at Bronte. Come along for Start of the Season drinks, bar opens at 4pm.

All Welcome
